ABOUT THE FINANCE MINISTER OF INDIA. Arun Maharaj Kishen Jaitley was on born 28 December 1952 and he was a senior advocate of the Delhi High Court, Indian politician and also he is the current Minister of Finance, Minister of Defence and Minister of Corporate Affairs of the Cabinet of India, And Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party,(BJP) Jaitley formerly held the Cabinet of Commerce and Industry and Law and Justice in the Vajpayee government (1998-2004) and served briefly as Minister of Defense under the Narendra Modi government. From 2009 to 2014 he served as the opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha. He studied at the St. Xavier School, New Delhi, 1957-69. He graduated in Commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi in 1973. He passed his law degree from the University of Delhi in 1977.
Jaitley was a student leader of the (ABVP) Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on the campus of Delhi University in the 1970s and became the chairman of the Student Union of Delhi University in 1974. During the proclamation period, Internal Emergency in the (1975-77) Civil liberties were suspended, under the preventive detention for a period of 19 months. He was a prominent leader of an anti-corruption movement launched in 1973 by Raj Narain and Jayaprakash Narayan. He was the Coordinator of the National Committee of Students and Youth Organization appointed by Jai Prakash Narayan. He was also in the action in the civil rights movement and he helped find PUCL Bulletin along with Satish Jha and Smitu Kothari. After being released from jail he joined Jan Sangh.
In 1977, being the convener of the Loktantric Yuva Morcha at a time when Congress suffered defeat, Jaitley was appointed the chairman of the Delhi ABVP and All India Secretary of the ABVP. He was then appointed the chairman of the BJP youth wing and Delhi Unit Secretary in 1980, shortly after joining the party.
Jaitley has been a member of the national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since from 1991. He became the spokesperson for the BJP during the run-up to 1999 in the general election. In 1999, after the Vajpayee Government-led National Democratic Alliance BJP was appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (Independent position) on October 13, 1999. He was also appointed Minister of State for Divestment, a new ministry created for the first time to give effect to the politics of Divestments under the regime of the World Trade Organization. He assumed the additional charge of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs on July 23, 2000, following the resignation of Ram Jethmalani as Cabinet Minister of the Law, Justice and Business Affairs Union.
He was elevated to a Cabinet Minister in November 2000 and simultaneously became the Minister of Law, Justice and Business Affairs and Maritime Transport. He was the first Minister of Maritime Transport after the bifurcation of the Ministry of Surface Transport. He served in the office of the Minister of Maritime Transport with effect from 1 September 2001 and as Minister of the Union of Law, Justice and Business Affairs on 1 July 2002 to join as Secretary General of the BJP and his national spokesman. He worked in this position until January 2003. He rejoined the Cabinet of the Union as Minister of Commerce and Industry and Law and Justice on January 29, 2003. With of the defeat of the National Democratic Alliance in May 2004, Jaitley Returned to serve to the BJP like secretary general, and again to its legal race.
He was elected as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha on June 3, 2009, by L.K. Advani. On June 16, 2009, he resigned from the post of BJP Secretary General according to the One Man One Post principle of his party. He is also a member of the party’s Central Electoral Committee. As the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha, she played a vital role during the talks on the women’s reserve bill in the Rajya Sabha and also supported Anna Hazare for the Jan Lokpal bill. He successfully introduced the eighty-four amendment to the Indian Constitution in 2002 freezing parliamentary seats until 2026 and the ninety-first amendment to the Indian Constitution in 2004 penalising defections. However, being in the party since 1980 he never disputed any direct election until 2014. He was the BJP candidate for the Amritsar seat in Lok Sabha (replacing Navjot Singh Sidhu) for the 2014 general election but lost the candidate Indian National Congressman Amarinder Singh. He is currently a member of Rajya Sabha of Gujarat.
Jaitley was a former Supreme Court Judge K.S. Panicker Radhakrishnan at the National Law University in the Gujarat.
